How nice to be taken back to Cornwall in Phillipa Ashley’s latest novel. I have enjoyed reading many of her previous books set in this county, and was looking forward to discovering what events were about to unfold in this new tale. I found once again a story that, once started, was difficult to put down. The book is set in the little Cornish seaside town of Porthmellow, where the annual food festival is just around the corner. The festival was dreamed up 10 years previously by Sam Lovell and friends who were looking for a way to reverse the fortunes of their failing town. Fortunately, the festival has gone from strength to strength and Sam looks forward to organising it every year, despite simultaneously running a busy catering business and looking after her younger sister. However, this year the star attraction, a renowned chef, has pulled out at the last minute. Fortunately, one of Sam’s team, Chloe, has found a replacement in Gabe Matthias, once a Porthmellow resident and now a famous chef based in London. However, Chloe has no idea that the return of this man is Sam’s worst nightmare, his departure years before having followed an event that spelled disaster and misery for Sam, her sister Zennor and brother Ryan.As I expected, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and its characters; I was pulled into the story, and couldn’t predict how it was going to end. Sam is a very likeable and determined young woman, who has brought up her younger sister while building up a successful business and worrying about the fate of her brother, who she hasn’t seen for many years. It is also to her credit that the town’s food festival has become such a popular event, attracting visitors and exhibitors from a wide area. I thought it a shame that she has held a grudge against Gabe Matthias for many years over an admittedly serious event without apparently knowing all the details. The full details of what happened are hidden also from the reader until late in the story; until then, we are just given hints. In addition to the central story of Sam and Gabe, there are serious situations for other major characters, adding to the enjoyment of the book as a whole. I can recommend this book for anyone who would enjoy a bit of drama and romance in a beautiful setting; a perfect holiday read.

A PERFECT CORNISH SUMMER by Phillipa Ashley is a wonderful story about community spirit, determination, and love against the odds.Years ago, Sam Lovell lost a lot - she lost her beloved mother, her brother was sent to prison, and the love of her life, Gabe, was the one who put him there. Alone with her sister, Sam threw herself into organising a food and family festival that just might save their lovely town. Now ten years later, and their festival is growing bigger and bigger, with celebrity chefs, hundreds of unique stalls, music, and fun for everyone. When the newest committee member and Sam's friend, Chloe, realises that they have been let down by their celebrity chef, she is delighted to find an even bigger and better replacement who even has links to the area. But Sam is shocked when she learns that Gabe is flying to the rescue. How will she ever deal with the man who broke her heart and destroyed her family? But sometimes there is often more to the truth then what one believes. And as someone seems to be out to sabotage Sam and the festival, will she be able to get her heart and her head on the same page, and find out the truth about everything?Set in stunning Cornwall, this book made me wish I was there, experiencing the festival and the beauty of the area for myself. With wonderful, adept descriptions there is no stone left unturned with this story - you will feel every emotion, smell every smell, and taste the sea air on your tongue as you turn the page. The characters in this community are superb and eclectic, and I especially loved Chloe's story as she tried to help her daughter and granddaughter. Sam is feisty, strong, and a little too stubborn at times, but she is a great character that you would want to be friends with in real life. There is drama, vandalism, friendship, secrets, and true love deftly woven throughout A PERFECT CORNISH SUMMER by Phillipa Ashley and I cannot wait for more from this marvellous author.

I enjoyed this visit back to the Cornish Islands. I have read several of this author's books and enjoy her writing style, characters and plots very much. This was wonderful book of a second chance at love, forgiveness, resolving misunderstandings and reuniting family bonds.Sam is the main organizer of the Porthmellow Festival and devotes so much of her time to it. Her goal of helping her community thrive when she first suggested the festival years ago, has blossomed into more than she could have ever hoped. The festival is now a destination for people all over to come and enjoy the great time.Due to a situation that develops with the festival, Gabe, who is a native but left the area years ago, comes back to help. Gabe and Sam have a history that ended badly. Maybe with the time that passed and more maturity in both of them, they can have a better future together.Chloe is fairly new to Porthmellow. Everyone in the village thinks that she is living a perfect life. That is the impression that she portrays to the world. In reality, she is heartbroken. Her daughter has cut her out of her life. She has never met her granddaughter and is worried about both of them. Chloe pushes through her worry with her work. Drew has worries of his own, but finding Chloe has lightened his load. I really adored these two characters finding each other.Several other plots are included in the book adding to the feel of being in the village and knowing it's inhabitants. This was truly a delightful book that I recommend highly.I want to thank NetGalley.com and Avon for allowing me to read the ARC. The opinion I posted is my own, not influence by receiving the advanced copy of this book.
